NPR: Libertarian Summer Camp →
On today’s Planet Money, we travel to a place where people are trying to live without government interference. A place where you can use bits of silver to buy uninspected bacon. A place where a 9-year-old will sell you alcohol.
Best bit is from the comments:
I’ve considered myself a Libertarian for many years, but have to say that I found their views a bit extreme. I didn’t know that there were some branches of Libertarianism that were against government regulating food or medicine safety.
Translation: I thought it pretty edgy/rebellious/non-conformist to call myself a libertarian until I learned what it actually means.
Libertarianism means self-ownership and non-aggression. It means freedom to do whatever you wish so long as you do not infringe on the life, liberty, or property of another. It is free people making mutually beneficial exchanges and free choices in how best to live their lives peacefully.
What’s so bad about that? Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.
If you would genuinely like to learn what it actually means - and not defer to trite propaganda that provides comfort to those who fear absolute liberty - feel free to peruse my posts or even ask away.
