So many consumer goods provided by only ten corporations is the direct result of state corporatism. What Karen De Coster calls The Politicized, Supersized, Subsidized Industrial Food Empire.

The state tends to favor bigger firms over smaller ones - with greater access to politicians, regulators, and bureaucrats who can grant them protectionist favors including subsidies, tariffs, import quotas, government purchases, regional monopolies, vouchers, licensing, regulations, fed loans, and ultimately bailouts after great failures (for those “too big to fail”). It is the state that incentivizes the growth of businesses well beyond what would be economically efficient and feasible in a free market.
