A Blessed and Lucky Man [A Personal Note]
A little over ten years ago, I entered a relationship with a beautiful young woman. We were just kids, really. I was in my early 20’s, and she was (is) a few years younger. I was more testosterone and beer than anything else, but I nonetheless immediately realized that I didn’t want to know a life without her. And the more I got to know the hot co-ed who laughed at all my jokes, the more I liked.
Five years ago today, we were married. I can tell you about the beautiful ceremony and decorations and the food and music and guests, but what I most remember is her smile. Even through watery eyes, she found a way to offset the sunset.
Not long after, we had a daughter. I will admit that I was probably not ready; but the moment that little girl entered the world, I was ensnared and transformed. My wife and I developed a new and stronger bond - it wasn’t just about us anymore. Our lives changed - and our relationship matured and deepened in a way that I did not think was possible.
Today, we have two beautiful, wonderful, brilliant, sweet girls. From young and wild we grew to become a family, a family that is my precise definition of perfection.
How lucky, how blessed, am I to have my first desire those many years ago fulfilled by never having to know a life without her… and to further be showered in riches by the family we’ve created. With all the ways our lives have surprised us, with all the ups and downs we’ve enjoyed and endured, she isn’t the same person I had met and fallen in love with… she’s even better: a doting and caring mother, a thoughtful and loving companion, and a supportive and considerate friend.
In turn, she’s made me the man I am, and is the ultimate provider of my happiness.
To my wife, my muse, my hero, my love: thank you for all you are. The best part of today is knowing that our lives together have only just begun. I love you.
